I’m just a trail of tears here. I gave up trying to recover my FCP 5 project and purchased FCP Studio 2. I was going to have to buy it anyway and if I had to do a re-install and re-render I figured now was a good time.

The thing is, now that I have FCP 6 installed on my computer, and FCP 5 is gone, I can’t open ANY of my FCP 5 projects in the new software. I’ve tried old ones, even, thinking the corruption may have been an issue. The project opens to 47 percent, then asks if I want to up-convert. I say ‘yes’ and an hour and a half later, its still cycling and when I check I find the message that FCP is not responding.

I’ve tried this three times on three different projects. I’ve blown away all of my old renders and run diagnostics on all of my drives. I’m working in Leopard on an older G5 with the 1.25 ghz processor (I think).

The scariest part is I looked up this problem on other forums and see people unable to resolve it. So far, no solutions! Am I outta luck?

try disconnecting your media drive(s) first, then open/update the project
when its open, reconnect your media drives and use File menu > Reconnect Files…
