February 4, 2011 at 12:28 am[Darren Powell] “Anyway, if you know of anyway to get Vegas Pro 10c to ‘smart render’ a 7D .mov project that would be awesome.”
First it’s important to understand what “smart rendering” is. What Vegas does is copy frames from the source file to the target file. To do this, the specification of the video must be exact and the file formats must be the same. Since the 7D shoots MOV format and AVCHD is MTS format this is not possible. Also, the 7D does not shoot AVCHD. It shoots Cannon’s own flavor of AVC/H.264 which doesn’t conform to any particular standard. So the chances of “smart rendering” Canon’s format is nil.
Second, Sony did not implement smart rendering for AVCHD. It only smart renders DV AVI and MPEG2. You can’t get this to happen even if Canon used AVCHD as it’s 7D format. In short, there is no way.
This is another reason why I shoot HDV. It smart renders. 😉
