Hey all, I have a 2008 octo core Mac Pro and am still running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with FCPX. Everything’s running OK but work’s been steadily increasing and I’ve been contemplating upgrading to a SSD behind my second optical bay so it will free up the hard drive bay for a 4 drive raid as recommended by davinci for Resolve and for just general editing smoothness working with multicam HD video.

With Mountain Lion coming out soon I am feeling a little sense of urgency to go ahead and do this. I was planning on upgrading to Lion when I installed the new SSD. Will I be able to upgrade to Lion once Mountain Lion is released or will I lose that option? I’ve never been in a hurry to install the Latest OS because I always see threads about bugs in Pro software for at least a few months after a major release. Am I correct in my logic? Should I just go ahead and download Lion now and then have the ability to download Mountain Lion if it seems to do well with FCPX? Are there any people running the Golden Master of Mountain Lion with FCPX that can say if it plays well? Are there any benefits to running Lion for pro apps or should I even be considering upgrading to Lion if Snow Leopard is working fine? Thanks.

Id go with Lion just to be safe.
You dont want to be moving right up to a new OS with heavy workload.
