October 31, 2020 at 9:57 pmI hesitated a week to finish up a project in progress. Then ran a fresh TimeMachime image of my prior system. Then I totally erased my machine and did a clean install of Catalina. Since I’d already taken a leasurely week to find all my legacy 32-bit apps and trash them, the install went extremely smoothly over two half days. The following morning at 11am I had a session and utterly no issues. It’s been two months since and I haven’t had a single problem. Everything’s operating as expected and super smoothly. And that includes complex days when I’m juggling FCP X editing and live Zoom meetings, running multiple Apps and running both Safari and Chrome for different uses simultaneously.
My 16” MacBook Pro seems to totally love Catalina.
Just my experience.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, but why did you feel the need to do a fresh install on your 16″ MBP? That’s a very recent machine, so it probably shipped with a version of Mojave. Right? Therefore, the OS update should have been very easy without any issues. Just curious.

November 1, 2020 at 11:18 pmActually, I’ve always wondered if this was a bad move.
I’ve done this many times with brand new systems personally. The only time it bit my @$$ was years ago when I couldn’t get GarageBand installed via online.
I seem to do this step a lot.
How does everyone feel about this?
