Upgrade from Vegas 6
Just received the Pro 8 UPGRADE disc from Sony and installed it. To my surprise both Vegas 8 and DVDA 4.5 installed in Sony folder AND left my previous Vegas 6 + DVDA 3 untouched!
Now I can use all of them!!!
I thought the upgrade will overwrite the previous version.
Having both versions (6 and 8) installed wouldn’t create a conflict?
So far I haven’t noticed that it would, except for one thing: Vegas 8 will import only the VIDEO from MPEGs but not the audio in AC3 format (Vegas 6 will open both video + audio)
Being unable to open my MPEGs (with AC3) previously created is very inconvenient.
Is it because the installation? Any idea?

Correct. Every version of Vegas installs in its own folder and each can be used. I’ve had several machines with multiple versions installed.

Good to know Sony let us keep all versions.
My other question is still unanswered. Wasn’t noticed by anyone or it just happenned to me because there may be some setting I’m unaware of?
It’s about Vegas Pro 8 NOT loading the AC3 sound from MPEGs (the video is loading). Need to mention that I have installed both Vegas 8 and DVD Architect 4.5 and I know from version 6 that AC3 requieres Architect to be loaded in Vegas.
Anybody has an answer?

Vegas will load AC3 embedded in VOB files but will not load AC3 direct. If you have an mpeg2 file, one workaround that has been done is to make it a DVD and then import it for the audio. Of course, you could always use some other program to convert from AC3 to WAV.
