  • updating nested sequences

Just want to check this with the forum…
I’ve always thought / had my nested sequences update dynamically in FCP without having to replace a nested sequence with a new version of itself in the sequence it’s sitting in. Am I right or wrong in expecting this from FCP, and are there any situations that prevent it or it doesn’t do it?

HD sequences nested in SD sequences for MPEG 2 compression are giving me much consternation by not updating correctly. I feel as if they have at some times, and haven’t at others, but haven’t kept a log or anything.

Appreciate any light that can be shed,
    Zak

Well… if the nest was created by dragging a sequence to a sequence, that nest will update. If it’s a copy from a nested sequence to another place in any other or same sequence, it won’t update.

i.e. has to be the original nest to update, and copies of nests don’t update.

A lot of times if you make changes to the original clips/media of a nested composition/sequence, the nested sequence will not update because the nested is still playing/referencing an old render file – so my solution was just to drag the opacity of the nested sequence from 100 to 50 then back up to 100 to get rid of the render file and then the nested sequence would update to whatever changes I made. I’m not sure if this is your problem, but there you go.

    Thanks Harrison,
That seems like a really good way to break any connection with old render files without having to drag a new copy into the sequence.
