Upconvert to 1080P HD-CAM for color correct and final delivery
Just looking for a little advice here.
I just finished shooting a short narrative HD drama on the Varicam in unison with the Pro-35mm adapter and cooke S4’s. The short will be digitally projected.The project is currently being offlined and will be ready for more of an “online” (depending on which way we go) soon.
I’ve considered upconverting to HD-CAM (SR) for a our coloring and final delivery.
I have worked with Plaster City Post in Los Angeles before and know they’re more than capable. I guess I’m looking for some kind of information based on having done it before from a DP’s perspective.
Is it worth it? Pro’s and Cons?

One more thing.
What about the possibility of finishing on film?
Costs and Benefits? The piece would take on the characteristics of the film itself right?I know it’s subjective but what would look the ‘best’?

Thats an understatement IMHO. They are one of the best in LA right now, especially if you are an FCP user, they are the best.
Michael the conversion is really straight forward, 720p 23.98 gets edited and CC then output to 1080 23.98 SR tape.
Depending on your CC needs you may want to convert to SR first then do the color corrections, but in my experience that was rarely if ever needed.The people at Plaster City are the best I have worked with, you are in very good hands.

Yeah Plaster City is top notch.I actually just found out moments ago that they’re going to be using some footage that I shot on the Viper Filmstream for a demonstration at HD-Expo in Chicago this weekend. Apparently it’s going to be projected with the new Sony 4K projector. Wish I could be there.
Anyway, Michael said the same thing you did. Maybe CC in HD-CAM SR but it may very difficult to tell the difference vs. cost of regular HD-CAM
