  • Unwrap a DNxHD Quicktime and rewrap it as MXF?

    Hi

Camera department wants to deliver me DNxHD-encoded footage in a Quicktime wrapper. I can import this into MC 3.0 no problem, but it’s sloooow – about 2.5x real time. One bit of oddness is that on import I’m presented with a dialogue box asking if I want to import the quicktime with a matte or as an A/V clip – which is odd as it’s only 24-bit data, there’s no alpha.

Since the contents of the quicktime are already encoded with the DNxHD codec you’d think there might be a fast way of ingesting the footage – strip off the Quicktime wrapper, add an MXF one (I’m sure it’s not as simple as I make it sound) and bung the result in the Avid Mediafiles folder.

Does anyone have any ideas that might help? Or am I just stuck with a sloow import?

    Many thanks in advance

    Adam

Check your import settings, and try ignoring the alpha (as opposed to use existing or invert). This may allow you to skip the selection hurdle and at least do a batch import overnight or when the system’s not otherwise in use…
