Unknown error trying to save video profile
Posted by Frankie Jones on September 12, 2013 at 10:25 pmHey,
Am trying to save the properties of .mov clips I import to have a Straight(unmatted) alpha channel. I want to save this so all .mov clips are interpreted the same by Vegas to save me time.
I click Properties > Media > Stream Properties Stream: Video 1 then the save icon but get the message Unknown Error trying to save the video profile. How can I fix this.
Kind Regards

September 12, 2013 at 11:17 pmIm trying to understand what you are doing, but…
If you want all your clips alpha channel be the same,
highlight all of them then go in media properties and make the
change. Now all will automatically be changed. However, if you are trying to save some sort of settings, so
that each time you import a clip, it will automatcally have
the set alpha channel, THAT IS NOT GOING TO WORK!Steve Rhoden

September 13, 2013 at 12:05 amThat media properties thing works well, thanks. CAPS didn’t help me understand some other things though:
What exactly does the Save Icon do then in properties? And why am I getting this error? It must serve some sort of function and from what I read in a previous thread, it saves how certain file types are auto interpreted on import by Vegas. Am using pro 12 latest build and is a purchased version.

September 13, 2013 at 5:50 amNot sure, by all logics that “save” icon doesn’t need to be there.

September 13, 2013 at 2:55 pmIn past version of Vegas Pro that save icon has worked, however in the past few versions, I have been unable to get it to work as well. I get the same error that you do and I reported it to Sony a long time ago and they said that they could not reproduce it. Funny, it’s been broken on every machine I own with every version of Vegas Pro so I don’t know what’s unique about my machines but apparently I’m not the only one that it doesn’t work for.
Under the covers, that save button updates a preference file. I think that since Vista changed the security properties in Windows is when it stopped working. Maybe if you start Vegas Pro as an Administrator just to make the save it might work. I don’t know I’ve never tried that (I just gave up trying).

What should happen is that your default settings are saved for that file type. For example: if you want to change the alpha channel setting that is used when you drop a PNG file on the timeline, you should be able to change it in the media tab and press the save button. Then the next time you drop a PNG file on the timeline, it should use the new alpha channel setting by default.
Does that work for you?
