uncompressed quick time files to edit in FCP / sequence problem !
Hi hello !
i am working with ntsc QuickTime files that have none compression (codec:none)- this is footage coming from an analog pixel-vision camera, and that is the way it was recorded.
My question is what is the best way to adjust the settings of my sequence in fcp in order to edit this footage. I wonder if i should set my sequence to none compression as well (to match the footage) but i am not sure what sort of consequences would this have – maybe super slow or super mega large project ; or if i should set my sequence to for example DV/DVCPRO-NTSC and always end up rendering my footage into the sequence – and i am not sure what sort of consequences would this have either . . . .Thanks for the help in advance !

Run the clips through compressor and convert to an edit friendly codec of your choice or that best matches the footage/edit u need.
OR
Drop em all in a timeline and render to the new chosen codec. But then they will un-render as u edit…

The None codec, like the Animation codec is not for editing, it is for compositing. By all means, convert this footage to ProRes 422 or ProRes LT. Use Compressor for this.

Yes, and ProRes LT comes with FCP 7 not FCP 6.

Hello all
I am new to the forum- which looks great! – and new to FCP (I have 6). Apologies if this is a dumb question.
I have been unable so far to determine if there is a way I can compress Quick Time files for editing. Is this done at the stage of importing them (they are on my apple HD) or once they are in the bins?
similarly for an MP3 file which I want to use as the soundtrack.
any help much appreciated.
