  • Unable to target audio track in Premiere Pro CS5

I have a project in PP CS5 with four audio and 12 video tracks. I’ve created these tracks without any problem so far. I’m trying to add a fifth audio track by dragging it from the project panel to the timeline, but PP only lets me drag it to track eight which is already occupied, and I need them to overlap. Tracks four – seven are empty, but PP won’t let me move the audio on track eight to any other track. A1 is displayed in the first column of track eight and I can’t make it go away (though I can highlight/unhighlight it, which doesn’t alter the track’s behavior).

I’ve tried inserting/overlaying the audio from the source panel, but that just moves everything on the other tracks to the right by the duration of the inserted/overlayed audio without actually inserting/overlaying the audio.

I suspect my problem(s) have something to do with targeting a track, but I’ve never been able to figure out how to do this. I follow the instructions but nothing changes.

    Thanks for your help.
