  • Unable to Import Audio When Using AVI Movies with MPEG Layer-3 Audio Type

When I import an AVI movie that has MPEG Layer-3 audio, only the video portion is imported. Premiere won’t give me the audio. If I right click on the file and select properties prom premiere project window, it shows that the movie does indeed have audio but its not importing it into the project window. So I have a movie with no audio to work with. I can play the movie with audio in any other programs. Why won’t premiere import the audio?

Where did you acquire the video from?

Its a windows desktop video that I downloaded from the internet. I using bits and pieces of some downloaded DiVx and Xvid videos to edit into my project. I’ve tried using several different videos in my project, but when they contain MPEG Layer-3 audio type, the audio will not import into premiere.
Is it a codec issue? How does premiere use codecs? Does it come with its own set of codecs or does it use the ones I’ve installed on my PC? I was thinking of uninstalling all my codecs and then reinstalling them one by one to troubleshoot the problem.
There is another issue that is beginning to bug me too. The video plays back choppy in the preview window. Is this because premiere is having trouble keeping up with all the different video clips I’m using or is there something wrong with my setup?
