  • Unable to copy and paste audio Transitions in FCP7

Posted by Andy Harrison on March 11, 2010 at 11:45 am

    Hi Cows,

I have upgraded to FCP 7 but I am currently unable to enjoy the ‘copy audio transitions’ feature on my system. I have used other systems and alt dragging an audio transition to another single transition or a host of selected audio clips works great. However whenever I try on my Mac I am met with the following error message:

‘There was insufficient media for the requested transition at one or more edit points. Would you like to accept others?’

If I click yes I am left with a shorter transition and it is not aligned correctly. I can manually create the transition I want proving there is sufficient media, I am just unable to copy the transition from one clip to another. This has become really frustrating!!!

Does anyone know what I need to change within my FCP settings to make this feature work?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks
    Andy

Sounds like one/both of the clips/audio tracks do not have handles to allow for the transition you desire.
For a better explanation search Handles in the FCP User Manual under the help menu.

You can also check for handles by pressing the S key and then clicking on the clip/audio you want to add the transition to. A grey highlight will show you how much extra media you have available to add the transition.

    good luck,
    Victor

    Thanks Victor,

But as I said in my original post – I am able to create the transition manually as there is enough media for handles. What I’m not able to do is alt+drag the same audio transition from one clip to another. There is definitely enough media which is why I am finding this so frustrating. Is there a setting anywhere in the preferences that would affect this?

    Hi Calixte,

I haven’t fully resolved the issue as yet but I have discovered why I was getting the error message. When I create my inital audio transition using the short cut for my favourite audi transition (alt+cmd+t), I am not able to copy the effect by alt dragging it to other clips – as per my original post.
However if I add the initial transition by going straight to the effects tab, rather than using the shortcut, I can manipulate the transition and copy it to other clips withoput any problems.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers
    Andy
