Experiencing some headaches trying to get an output to monitor via HDMI with a Blackmagic Ultrastudio from FCP 7. It seems codec related, as sometimes the monitor will only show the frame at the playhead when playback is stopped (Cineform encoded 3D files), other times it will just show black (anything encoded as ProRes). Oddly, mp4 files play back properly.

I’ve tried refreshing AV devices and ensured playback is set to all frames. Changing the sequence setting to Blackmagic 10bit allows playback of troublesome files, but that’s not much of an option as it requires everything to be re-rendered. Premiere seems to handle things a bit better, but again isn’t an ideal way to go.

    Any ideas out there?

    Blackmagic video 9.7.1
    Final Cut Pro 7.0.3
    OS X 10.8.3

Blackmagic system setting to 1080i 50
    FCP to Blackmagic 1080i 50 8bit RGB

9.7 driver was dropping frames on just a color bar in FCP7

FCP7 + 10.8 + Blackmagic is a No go. Blackmagic is aware but seem to ignore it because it’s fcp7.

It’s not 10.8 because FCP7 works great with AJA hardware on the same setups.

It’s on ALL blackmagic hardware in FCP7 en 10.8 on different Mac setups.

I was hoping they would fix it in next driver but obviously they didn’t.

    Hi Paul,

Very belated, but just wanted to say thanks for the response on this: it came in just in time to save me spending hours troubleshooting in the middle of nowhere in Saudi Arabia.

Had to use Premiere in the end: not ideal but got the job done. Thanks again.
