  • Ultrastudio 4K and AES on driver 10

Posted by Henrik Helms on February 27, 2014 at 7:12 am

I have upgraded to the latest driver on my Ultrastudio 4K and have ran into problems.
Suddenly nothing comes out of my AES output which is connected to my DK-audio meter. It worked fine before.
And for me its hard to see what I can do different because the only option regarding outputs in the Blackmagic Design Desktop Video in system settings is “Set Output” to “All outputs activev” – but it seems like its not delivering any on the aes – but the xlr works fine.

Another thing which also been a problem in the earlier versions is that outputs sound fine in fcpx but if I want to get sound in (from my microphone through the aes input, nothing happens when I choose the blackmagic input in “record audio” option in fcpx. When I go to Blackmagic Media Express software I can see the microphone is coming in fine. Is the problem that the Ultrastudio 4K can’t handle in and output in the same software or….

    My setup is this:
Sony J3 connected to SDI input
JVC BR-HD50 connected to my component input
SDI out goes to my Panasonic TH-42BT300 monitor
XLR out goes to my speakers
AES in comes from Aphex 2070 (connected to my microphone)
AES out goes to my DK-audio DK1 meter

    Computer:
    MacPro 3Ghz 8 core with 32GB RAM.
    Two Apple thunderbolt screens
Working with FCPX and Adobe Audition primarily.

I hope someoen can help me solve this!

    Hello,

I have exactly the same problem. Update and no more sound. Did you find a solution ?

    Hello,

Very strange because with previous version of the driver, everything was fine.

My UltraStudio 4k has distortion in one XLR output. The other channel is fine and so are both channels in the HDMI output. I have to run driver 10.0 because Avid will not see the device in earlier versions. I have this issue with two different US 4k units

Turns out to be the 10.0 driver is the culprit. Have to go back two versions to 9.2.2 in order to solve this issue. BMD has some issues.
