  Ugly Phishing that can messs up your attached storage in Windows

  We don’t see enough of these warnings here and many of us ship media and equipment by a multitude of freight carriers, so receiving a note from TNT wouldn’t always be unexpected. New spam is coming in disguised as a waybill and receipt from TNT Global Express calling out that “Your Product Has Arrived”. The waybill image is completely blank and there is a “TNT RECEIPT.doc” file attached with instructions to print the doc and visit the listed TNT location to pick up your “Package”.

  If you try to open the file on a Windows system, you will be prompted that the file was saved in a newer version of Word (no matter what version you are using) and asking for permission to “convert” the file to the newer format. If you grant permission, you will allow the malware payload to infect your system. In this case, the problem not only hits the system drive, but attached volumes as well from what has been uncovered.

  If you actually DO do business with TNT Express, please call them to verify any such receipt that you receive. Do not open the attachment.
