Typing Bug In FCP? Very Strange Issue.
Hello: I have a strange issue with FCP 5.1 not being able to type any text – like you would do when logging or renaming clips. It will not even allow me to type a name for the project.
All my software is update. I have a AJA Kona 2 card. I am editing HD CAM and Beta SP. So, I will have to switch back and forth from HD to SD. I have the latest Mac OS.
I do NOT have this issue outside of FCP. I’m to the point of reinstalling the OS – I am in between shows. Thank you for any and all comments that could help me.

Trash preferences and restart your computer?

Yes, try trashing the prefs and please let us know if that helps.

Please ask any questions.< If you're not getting typing/keyboard errors in nay other application DO NOT reinstall the operating system, waste of time. FCP includes several other applications. Do all of them exhibit this behavior? LiveType, Motion, Soundtrack? bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.” -
This was the issue. I had a trial version of Bias “Soap.” It seems like when it expired it – somehow – disabled typing functions in FCP. Once, I removed the program everything worked fine.
I have had very few issues with FCP – and I have been editing with FCP since version 1. This was the strangest issues i have ever had. thanks to all for your help. -

Well, at least now we know. I installed the latest Boris Continuum Complete 4 filters and it completely disabled all rendering in FCP. Even FCP native filters would not render. Funny how little things like that can ruin your day.
