  • Typewriting effect where first letter stays still?

Posted by Alvin Down on December 5, 2014 at 12:21 pm

    Hello

I recently just learnt how to do a type writing effect by using the Animate button on the Text Media Generator where I add in a keyframe to every next letter. However, there is only one issue…

When more letters are added, the letters before get pushed to the left.
I want it so that the letters added don’t push the first letters.
How can I do so to achieve this?

    Here’s some examples:
    First letter: https://puu.sh/dhVXY/e8e9af4c97.jpg
    A few more letters: https://puu.sh/dhW0W/4fd9a52e88.jpg

You can see that the word is always moving and pushed to the left.
I don’t want it to do that, so how can I fix this?
I have also tried using the “Anchor Point” option to make it to the Center Left, but for some reason, when previewing the video, it does not do anything.

    Thank You.

Try using “align centre” instead of “align left”. That may address the issue.

Yeah it was aligned center at first, but it didn’t work, so I tried aligning to the left.

Ok, I’ve uploaded an example veg file, hope you have Vegas 12 or better. If not let me know and I will make a veg file in a lower version. Let me know if this works for you.

    Hi
Thank you, Russ, that method works for me, but I noticed that I have to change the keyframe types to ‘HOLD’ instead of the default as ‘Linear Fade’.

I also found another method where I can use the normal text media generator. First you type in the full text, then you mask it, creating points on each letter to reveal each one.

Yeah that works too. I’ve been modifying and playing with the file since I created it, you know just to see. I’m actually impressed what one can accomplish with just the legacy text and Vegas default Plugins. Yes if keyframe interpolation is left at default, the letters will tween between keyframes. You can select all the keyframes and change them all at once to see for yourself what the effects are.
    Good Luck with your project.
