  • Two questions: Independent Clips and Log Video in another app

I am hoping someone can help me here. Please excuse the double question post.

    1. I have some DV material that was captured with some video/audio noise. The noise only effects some of my clips in my timeline. i want to make these clips independent and and recapture them (just the in’s and outs of trimmed clip). Make independent clip however is grayed out. why?

    2. Is there way to import video logs made from another application (ie. EDIT or AVID) to be captured in Final Cut 5.0

    Thanks fellow grazers!

    1) Are you selecting the clip in the timeline? Make independent is a timeline function. Run media manager of the clips making an offline project. Capture the new material and then import it into the existing project. Not sure what good it will do though. You’re just doing another transfer from the tape. The file should be identical.

    2) If they can be exported to a tab delineated format then can be opened in FCP. The column order has to be correct, which you may have to fix in a spreadsheet editor.

    All the best,

    Hi Tom,

    Thanks for the help.

    1. I am trying to make an independent clip from the timeline but the functions “make independent clip” and “make subcllip” are grayed out. i’m not sure why.

i didn’t want to get into media manger as it is only a few clips that are effected. i believe i’ve done this in Final Cut before: select a clip from the time line make it and independent clip and then capture it

    2. i’ll try that. thanks!

Make independent works for me in the timeline. You can’t select a clip and make it a subclip from the timeline.

Depending on how you captured your material but may not do what you want. It will still want to capture the whole extent of the media associated with that file. Make independent separates its link form the master clip in the browser, but it doesn’t separate it from the media file and its start and end times.

Nothing wrong with using media manager for a couple of clips.

    All the best,
