Twixtor Help – New and can’t figure it out
So I’m trying to use twixtor to make a fast motion to slow mo effect on a clip. The clip is 4:30 long and I only want to take maybe a 30 second segment, speed up the first 20 seconds to be about 10 seconds (double speed) and then slow down the last 10 seconds to 25% speed.
So I’m testing the slowmo part and when I apply twixtor to the 4:30 clip at 25% speed I lose the part I want to slow down. Meaning at 1/4 regular speed it quadruples the clip length but in reality the clip stays the same length just changes speed within the clip length and now my desired 30 second part of the clip is no longer visible within the 4:30 clip. Hopefully that makes sense. Meaning the clip is still 4:30 after twixtor is applied, but now it only show 1/4 of the footage (hence 1/4 speed) and the part of the clip I want is at the 3/4 mark of the original clip, thus no longer visible after I applied twixtor.
So how on earth do I apply twixtor to the clip and see the part I need to see in the timeline?

Odd. Did you try applying Twixtor to a solid, using the footage as the “source”?

Did you see the manual that is installed when you installed the Twixtor plugins? If not, make sure you find that and read through it (it’s short!)

Yes I read the manual and they’re examples are nothing like what really happens. For example in the slow mo tutorial they apply the speed change and the clip still starts at the same point, just shortens the overall length (since it cant make clip durations longer than usual). Where as in AE when I apply the speed change it totally changes the current starting point and I have to search the clip to find it. I couldn’t even get Twixtor 4.5pro to work. I managed to get 4.5 to work though, but still its a pain because it totally changes the points in my clip and I have to search and move my keyframes to the right part of the clip everything I change the speed.
Also whats with the pixelation and bluriness around the moving objects twixtor slows down? The slowmo footage is awesome but around the moving objects its real blury and pixelated looking. Any ideas?

I just dragged the footage into the comp, created a solid, applied twixtor to the soild, set the footage layer as the source, and set it to 25% in Twixtor. The slo-mo layer starts when the other layer starts (their in points are lined up), and the slo-mo layer is 4 times longer than the original footage layer. Works fine. Have you tried that?
As for the artifacts, maybe you should slo-mo to 50% then 50% again. Maybe 25% means that Twix has to interpolate a greater amount, gibing artifacts since it can’t really tell what’s what. You might need to create the intermediate frames gradually.

As far as the in- and out-points problem is concerned:,yes Twixtor assumes that things start at time zero instead of at the in-point (bad programmer ;-)). So you should follow Steve’s suggestion of precomping. This should solve that problem.
Well, I don’t think going to 25% by doing two passes is the answer. Sometimes footage is just hard to track, and some manual assistance is needed. For problematic footage, you might try Twixtor Pro. Scroll down the page and see what the Twixtor Pro additional features are. And yes, I know that you’d like something that works without manual intervention, but sometimes that’s the only way.

So if I create a solid, how do I set its source as the footage layer?
