Posted by Paula Stein on March 11, 2007 at 12:38 am

I am having a problem feeding my FCP project through to my TV Monitor.
I have everything runing through my ADVC-100 break box, RCA cables run through them and a Firewire cable from the box to the
G5. I use be able to go up to up to FCP > audio playback > refresh AV decises and > audio follows video etc. and it would show picture.

Please help, I think I my need to reset something in FCP.

    Thanks so much@

    Try this:

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.

    Shane’s Stock Answer #8:

A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv

Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.

Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video

Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV

If for some reason you can’t view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:

    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.

    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.

    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.

    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.

    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices

    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed

If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

If that doesn’t do it, try pressing the silver button on the Canopus. See if it is the wrong setting.

Also, what codec are you using. The Canopus converter will only output DV25 in real time.

    Hey Shane,

Just wondering about stock answer #8. If you hook it up as you say, FW-deck-TV… Is the audio and video ALWAYS in sync? I ask because sometimes I see a delay, and then play with the delay playback settings until it gets to what I think is close, but I trust my canvas for sync and my monitor for color.

It will be in sync if you monitor audio on the TV as well. But it will be off sync from the computer. The issue with monitoring via firewire is that there is a 2-6 frame delay from what you see on the computer monitor to what you see on the TV. SO you have to set the audio to match one or the other.

    Hi Shane..

I am having trouble with my TV hook up again. I cannot get a image on my TV monitor. I wend through all your steps below,
    but this time under

    >>>2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.

Under video playback, its says it is “(Missing)” Apple Firewire NTSC (720 by 480)

    What does this mean?

    Thanks,

    Paula

Hmmm….I see that from time to time. And you started the camera/deck BEFORE you launched FCP right? If so, Try trashing your preferences, with FCP Rescue
