Turning day into night
I shot a skit in the woods at dusk, and I need to make the skit appear to be at night in the woods.
I still need to see my characters, but still make it as dark as possible.
I know there must be a work-around for this or an effect that will make this work.
This is my first post here at creative cow. Any ideas? -

You could settle for an “American Night” as it is called here in Europe which is basically applying some sort of blue filter on top of your footage. This can be done easily by using a blue solid in Overlay mode for instance.

This is actually something that you need to consider while shooting. Certain light techniques will make our method of “Blue Solid in Overlay” look like a more realistic “European-style” night.

You could also try taking your saturation down, and darkening midtones and highlights in addition to overlaying a very dark blue solid. And maybe add some grain?

what a silly rejoinder, even lamely trying to be funny you seem to somehow think “American” connotes some racial component. last time i checked it’s a country (extremely multi-racial at that) or a style perhaps. i don’t get it even as an attempt at self-defensive humour. why bother commenting with a non sequitur that isn’t even humorous and is useless as well.

Actually that would be an ethnic slur, not racism.
Surprising how many people make that mistake.
