  • Turn down volume of audio tracks—IN THE SOURCE MONITOR !!!

Posted by Mike Throck on July 28, 2014 at 9:10 pm

I’m making the switch over from FCP, and for the most part Premiere seems to have a lot of the same functionality that I’m accustomed too.

There is one thing however that’s driving me crazy. There doesn’t seem to be a way to adjust clips at the source level. Everything has to be added to the timeline before you can change anything.

More specifically, I need to be able to lower/turn off audio channels in the source window. I get media with 8 tracks of audio but usually only need 4 of the tracks. How do I turn these tracks off so they don’t play in the source monitor?

In FCP I get a tab for each track that I just turn down to infinity. Can’t figure this out in Premiere, and I’ve got the spanish announcers on 3-4 and English on 5-6 making it impossible to watch these clips.

    Tell me this is possible!!

no response from anyone. I guess there is no way to do it.
I am also transitioning from FCP7 and miss easily changing audio levels.
also…a great many of my “daily use” effects won’t be available in Premiere. Like being able to make a light glow across text….a nice page turn….4 point mask with soft edging….Levelator….Nattress…CGM DVE Complete…Alex 4D Crop…Vignette….the list goes on. :/

Looks like Premiere still has a ways to go.

Sorry I can’t monitor the forum 24-7. I have work to do! 🙂

Of course you can. Right click the SOURCE MONITOR WINDOW. Choose Audio Gain. Set the level to -96.

    Enjoy the silence.

Thanks but I’m talking about adjusting the volume of the individual tracks.

Right, so just to be clear, I’m trying to control individual track volumes at the source level. Before anything has been added to the timeline or sequences.

Window>Audio mixer gives me control over tracks in the various sequences but not any source clips.

If you’ve used FCP you know what I’m talking about. I’m using Pr CC 2014, I don’t know maybe it’s different in other versions.

I know what you mean. The audio tabs. Looks like we are out of luck. I tried prelude and premiere and there does not appear to be a way to access the volume controls in the source monitor. It’s also really bad (to state the obvious) because if the clip is placed in a sequence, and then nested, then the waveform does not show up. I also tried subclipping and subclipping-in-prelude. Nothing seems to allow the controls you’re looking for.

That’s definitely something to send as feedback to Adobe.

    (edited for clarity)
