Hi there, I’m using the Elgato Turbo.264 device and components in Final Cut Pro and Compressor. I would like to compress videos I have recorded at an uncompressed 720×486 to a specific resolution of 640×480 using the turbo.264 inside of Compressor or Final Cut Pro. These are longer videos, lasting around 40 minutes to 90 minutes. Is there a way to see my custom settings I make in the Turbo software show up in Final Cut and Compressor?

It seems that the only way for me to get my project into the proper size by utilizing the Turbo device is by using the Turbo Software itself. However, that would require me to save my original Final Cut document to a Quicktime Movie, which takes long as it is, and then have to wait another 2 hours for the video to encode in the Turbo software? I think there’s a better way, I just don’t know of it yet.

[Chris Hinojosa] “t seems that the only way for me to get my project into the proper size by utilizing the Turbo device is by using the Turbo Software itself.”

Yup. That’s how it is designed. It only works with the software that Elgato provides. If you want something that works with Compressor, then you need to look at the Matrox CompressHD card, or the MXO2 line with MAX built in.

Don’t export it SELF CONTAINED. Just render everything, then export as a REFERENCE movie. Just un-check SELF CONTAINED and it will export very quickly. A file that references the media that already exists.

    Hey Chris

If you’ve not already done so, it would be a good idea to widen your search to include Elagato’s own forums, and also to ask your question there. A quick look turned up this for me:

May not be what you’re looking for but it seems likely that if it can be done then the Elgato boys would know how.

Ok, so I export at Quicktime Movie from Final Cut and uncheck the box to make self-contined movie so as to just make a “reference movie” but is it supposed to take forever to save as a reference movie? It takes quite a while and my video is only around 40 ish minutes long.

I do this all the time, and it works great.
In Compressor, create a new setting template. In the inspector, choose “file format: Quicktime Export Components”. “Encoder Type: Elgato Turbo.264 HD”.

Once this is done, you can tweak the settings with the button “options”.

    Hope this helps.
