  • Trying to use an m2t file I made in project and it comes out pixilated BAD

Posted by Don Cobble on September 9, 2011 at 5:19 pm

I did a project for a dvd. I no longer have original project. The customer wants me to take the final dvd project and make another dvd with a commercial at the end. I do have the Master M2t final project file.
I put it on timeline and removed commercial, about half way through the re-rendering for new dvd it says no recompression needed. After it finishes it is pixilated out the ying yang! The whole thing!
I rendered the original HDV 720 30P and tried to rerender in that thinking it would not recompress but it is a disaster.
    ANY HELP?

    That’s weird.
How does the original M2T look?

It’s puzzling that you would get the “no-rendering” message if you are re-encoding from M2T to MPEG2.

    Double check your settings.
Try encoding the MPEG files from another M2T file. If it still craps, then there’s something wrong in either the CODEC or the settings.

[Don Cobble] “I did a project for a dvd. I no longer have original project.”

I know you didn’t come here to be chastised so please don’t take this the wrong way, but how could this happen? Don’t you keep a backup of every project that a customer commissions from you? External hard drives are cheap. If you can fit 10 projects on a 500GB USB drive that cost $50, isn’t it worth charging an extra $5 and keep the customer’s project forever? (‘nuf said)

Get yourself Womble MPEG VCR. Render the commercial as MPEG2 and then use Womble to append the commercial to the end of the original DVD MPEG2 file. There will be no re-encoding. Womble can work directly with the original VOB files and copy the results to an MPEG2 Program Stream. You’ll be done in a few minutes. You can do this with the trial version. If you think it’s a useful tool to have (and it is) you can buy it for next time.

We need to see your project properties, render properties, and media properties to understand what might have gone wrong. Personally, I would just use Womble to cut and splice on a new commercial.

I repent – I will get the storage drives and store the projects to avoid this in the future.
    Thanks for the help
