Trying to to projection mapping in AE.
I’m trying to create effects in this video.

Particularly at the 0:40 with the ground extruded down like that.
I have maya and c4d experience and training, I just have a short turn around time and want to know the best way to start this. Ideally, in AE. Any info on where to start with something like this.

I bet, you have figured out everything by yourself since posting.
But if not…
You can do extruding by mettle free form (that is included in AF from cs5, I think). -
Thanks for mentioning FreeForm Andrey. Yes you can do it with our stuff and it was bundled with CS5 – no longer with CS6 but still available on our website. You would need to create a displacement map and use that on FreeForm with our 3D displacement feature. But looking at the example shown, you can use a layer extruder too to do this. There are many scripts out there for layer extrusion simulation in CS5.
