trying to open a fcp 10.0 project in fcp 10.2.3

Is one of these drives your start-up? If it is, the Final Cut Projects folder needs to be in your Movies folder. Also, the entire sub-folder (Craft15 Copy) should be in the Final Cut Projects folder that you created – not just the project file.

its not startup drive. to simplify, i created a new folder on drive 1 called “Final Cut Projects” and placed the project file in it. (so everything is now on 1 drive).
The folder Craft 15 copy only has the project file in it and a folder called backups with one backup file of that project file in it. thats it.

For pre 10.1 stuff, you should have 2 folders in the Folder you point X to for updating. A projects folder, and an events folder. Detail here, among other places…

yes, please see my last reply.
i have done that.
on the X drive i have 2 root directory folders with all the files in them:
Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects.
its recognizing the stuff in the events folder. still not recognizing the project file.

Hi David,

Let’s go through this step by step, just to make sure that everything updates correctly.

On your X drive, create a new folder called “FCP X 10.0” and put the old Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events folders inside this folder.

So, inside “FCP X 10.0” you should have two folders:

1. A folder called “Final Cut Events” with inside it a folder called “Craft 15”.

In the “Craft 15” folder you need to have:

– a “Backups” folder
– a “CurrentVersion.fcpevent” file
– an “Original Media” folder
– a “Render Files” folder
– a “Transcoded Media” folder

2. A folder called “Final Cut Projects” with inside it a folder called “Craft 15”.

In the “Craft 15” folder You need to have:

– a “Backups” folder
– a “CurrentVersion.fcpproject” file

If that’s correct, launch FCP X and select File > Update Projects and Events”.

The Update window will open. In the Update window, click the Locate button.

A Finder window will open. In the Finder window, go to your X drive and select the “FCP X 10.0” folder, then press the Update button.

FCP X will create a new Library from the old Final Cut Projects and Final Cut Events folders.

Under the Library icon you see a folder called “Smart Collections”. Click on the little triangle to disclose the contents of this folder. Inside it you will see a Smart Collection called “Projects”. Select it. Do you see any projects in the Browser now?
