  • Trying to import XML and media

    Hi there,

I am trying to import a project that was cut on a newer version of Final Cut (sadly I am still on the HD). I was given an XML file (I have exported XML files before, but never imported). When I import it it asks for the translation file. I have no idea what that means, but when I click on every file I was given, they all say no translation template found. So then, I figured I could just import the media I was given, since I am re-cutting and don’t really need the old project, but none of the Quicktime movies will open in my Final Cut. I can open them in Quicktime and watch them just fine, but when I try to import them I get a file error. I thought it might be a formatting problem but the format of all the files is:
    16-bit Integer (Little Endian), Stereo (L R), 44.100 kHz
    H.264, 720 x 480, Millions

which is pretty standard. So, I have no idea what to do and how to solve this. I have been reading everything I can on the forum and haven’t found anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Lori

well the XML export gives options for 3 types of XML files, I always request all types when doing this sort of thing just in case.

these H.264 files will not work with Final Cut HD, you will need to transcode them to something else. maybe dvcpro 50 ?

Thanks so much for your help. Do you know why these files won’t open in FCP HD? I can export something with that codec so you would think I could import with them. Do you know a way to batch convert 300 files so I can work with them in FCP HD?

    Thanks again for your help.

You can use MPEG Streamclip to do this
    https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html

In MPEG Streamclip choose List > Batch List (Cmd B) then follow the promts

    Cheers
