  • Trying to asynchronously Scale a circles outline

Posted by Marten Zander on May 5, 2016 at 11:45 am

    Hey,

I am just trying to scale the outline of a circle but asynchronously. This means I don’t want to scale all parts of the outline at once with the same amount. I actually want to make it like a radial wipe reveal.

I want the outline to scale from 0% to 100% in a radial manner. I hope you know what I mean because I couldn’t find an example video right now.

    What I tried so far:
I created a Luma Matte using two Layers (black & White). On the top Layer I used the simple radial wipe effect to actually create a heightmap displaying the right information for my scale animation.

I than created an adjustment layer on top of my outline layer with a simple transform effect and my scale animation set up. I than used my heightmap to be a luma matte for my adjustment layer.

But somehow that’s not working out.

Is there any other way to achieve what I am looking for?

I hope oyu guys got me right. Thanks in Advance!

Could you share a couple of quick sketches that visually show the progression you want?

If I understand the objective correctly, you could probably do it in the following fashion:

    1) Create a straight line that thickens in a wedge shape and stays at that final size. Sort of like and elongated pencil outline.

    2) Animate it in from outside the comp to the final stage of a fully thick line. Y-position close to the top edge of the comp.

    3) Precomp and add polar coordinates on the precomp.

Just like Walter I have a hard time visualizing what you’re after – storyboard the animation and post it

Funny! I just did something very similar (if I understand what you mean)! Here’s what I did:

I used a shape layer and made 8 “boxes” that line up exactly to form an entire line across the screen. Then I animated each box up and/or down.

    Precomp that.

Apply the polar coordinates effect to the precomp.
