    Hi,

I’m pretty new to C4d so apologies if this is a very obvious answer.

I’m trying to animate a truck and trailer travelling and can’t get it to work properly. I’ve attached the trailer as a child of the truck and used the align to spline method, however the whole things looks a mess as the truck travels across the spline and the trailer is being dragged along behind.

I tried using the same method as the “train animation problem” post (https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/19/864749), however with a longer trailer, the back wheels skid across the ground when making a turn.

I’m wondering is there anything I can to to make the trailer move naturally in relation with the truck? (I.e. if I’m reversing the truck to the left, then the trailer will automatically move to the right).

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated,

    Many thanks,

    Barry

can’t test until tomorrow but I’m guessing the train stuff works because the train cars, while they do have two sets of wheels, have one effective rotational center point since they are on tracks so it’s easier to fake. The truck trailer has an attachment at the front, the rotational center at the rear and the rear wheels want to go forward/backwards but not sideways….

    Hi Brian,

    Thanks for the speedy reply.

So what do you recommend that I do to make the rear just go forward and backwards?

    Many thanks again,

    Barry

I haven’t had much time but one way or the other the two ends of the trailer have to move together (movement in the direction of travel) and separately (movement caused by the rotation of the cab – the front should move ‘sideways’, the back should not) it’s either make the trailer from two (or more) rectangle splines lofted or bones with FK and IK maybe. I should be able to put up some tests tomorrow.
