    Hello!
I’ve been having a real hard time trying to figure out what do I have to do in order to render a video.

The videos are portraits of citizens of Buenos Aires talking and moving a lot with a black (mate) background.
What I have to do is switch all blacks into transparency, so only the places with light will show when we project it.

I can’t figure out how to do this. I don’t know if its a Alpha setting to make all blacks transparent, or if it is a Gamma setting, to make everything without light transparent, or what!
I’ve been staring at the computer for the past 3 hours trying to figure this out, and I just can’t.

Could any of you help me out with this?

Many, many, many thanks from Brazil

Use a luma key or the extract filter

    “|_ (°_0) _|”

    Sincerely,

Creating transparency may not be entirely necessary in your case. Usually transparency is useful if the footage is going into a digital pipeline (further compositing work). In the case of projecting or viewing video on a screen you can effectively think of black as ‘transparent.’ Projectors and displays work by adding or emitting light on a surface. Black adds no light (if you ignore the inescapable back light).

    Thank you a lot, Darby!
I’m gonna try to test it with the projector itself to see if its real needed to make the transparency

    cheers!
