    Hi,

I have a large project in Premiere Pro (about 140GB). It consists of 15, 15 minute long videos.

Each video has 2 sequences related to it (a nested sequence and the ‘main’ edit – that contains the nested sequence).

I am trying to use Project Manager to condense the project – exporting only clips that are used in the sequences. i have tried both ‘Trim’ and ‘Copy’ options (both using the ‘Exclude unused media option).

The problem is that Premiere doesn’t seem to include all the relevant files. When I open the trimmed or copied projects, some of the clips have grey backward stripes (on the clip in the sequence) and only show black as an output.

How can I force Premiere to include the relevant parts of all the media that is used?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hiya….

Could be a couple of things.

    a) PPro doesn’t TRIM all types of media.
Long GOP media sources are not trimmed….only copied as part of a media consolidation

    b) does your subordinate (nest) sequence contain the entire source?
If this is the case, there is nothing to trim. PPro see this as the entire source being used even though in the master you may only be using a portion of the source via the nest.

    Hi Alex,

    Thanks for the advice.

The trouble is not with Premiere not trimming clips – it’s the fact that it doesn’t copy certain files that are used in the sequences when it is creating the condensed version of the project.

So say I have clips A B C and D and I’m using parts of all of those clips across all my sequences. When I try to copy and condense the project Premiere will only copy clips A and C for example. This is even when I select every sequence as a source in the project manager. I don’t understand it!

    When you say clips….

are you referring to 4 separate media files on the drive?

    that would indeed be unusual….

    Hi Alex,

Yes, sorry – bad terminology on my part. I meant four separate media files.

It is odd – i’ve done this before with smaller projects and it has worked ok.

I’m using CS6 by the way.

    Kind regards

What kind of media (codecs) are the clips in question?

    Hi Tom.

The media is AVCHD shot on a Sony NEXEA50 or similar ( I can never remember the name of model of the camera)!

My research indicates that AVCHD is a long GOP codec. If when using the Project Manager you select Trim Clips, I know that PrP will not trim Long GOP clips. That maybe the issue you are bumping into here.

    Yeah….Tom

but…even when PM can’t trim the clip…it will COPY it to the new location….

that’s what strikes me as weird….

Yes, but I am dealing with another user situation where the Mac takes AVCHD media folders from the camera and turns them into a “package”…that pseudo directory that Apple makes with applications, etc…

That is screwing some things up in cross platform projects coming from Mac to Windows, at least anecdotally…I wonder if that is also messing with the project manager? The behavior Josef describes is spot on with this other situation…
