  • Trouble making a MPEG-2DVD at a 1920X1080 aspect Ratio output

    Posted by Mark Jackson on March 17, 2016 at 8:44 pm

    Dear Representative:

    I’m trying to make a MPEG-2DVD for a Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 1920X1080 sequence in Media Encoder CC 2015. When I use the MPEG-2DVD setting, the output is 720X480.

    How can I custom make a setting to match the source which is 1920X1080? I can’t figure it out. I can only find a Blu Ray DVD setting that matches this aspect ratio.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mark,

    DVD is an official specification and that means 720×480 in the U.S. and you can’t just change the numbers to your liking, then it is no longer “a DVD”.

    If you want HD, then burn a Blu-ray, that’s what it is for.

    Thanks

    Thanks Jeff.

    I don’t have a Blu Ray Drive/Burner on my mac. Will I be able to author and burn to a DVD disc using the Blu Ray/HD setting or Will I need a Blu Ray Drive to complete the process?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Mark

    [Mark Jackson] “Will I need a Blu Ray Drive to complete the process?”

    Yes. A BluRay burner is required to burn a BluRay. You can buy one from Lacie or other vendors that work over USB or FireWire on your Mac.

    DVD = standard definition (720×480)
    BluRay = high definition (1280×720 or 1920×1080).
