  • Trouble importing P2 – FCP keeps crashing! Please Help

Posted by Alan Lucchetti on July 8, 2008 at 5:00 am

    Hello friends and colleagues,

I am having some trouble importing P2 files into FCP 5.

I was given a hard drive with three folders containing the contents of 2 4G P2 cards, and one 8G P2 card. Both of the 4G directories import fine with no problem, but every time I try to import the 8G directory FCP crashes.

I have tried uninstalling FxFactory plug-ins, repairing permissions, trashing preferences and moving the directory to my internal hard drive and nothing has worked yet. FCP crashes every time.

I am working on a MacBookPro 2.16GHz Intel Core Duo and running Tiger 10.4.11.

Any help, advice, commiseration, etc. is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Alan Lucchetti

Sorry about the delay in replying to your post.

    I’m using FCP 5.1.4.

I eventually was able to import the footage without crashing FCP. Here’s how:

First I downloaded a trial version of MXF4QT
    https://mxf4mac.com/products/mfx4qt/

This allowed me to view the MXF files in quicktime. Then I went through each MXF video file on the drive until I found one that gave me an error ‘Incomplete Data’ or something like that.

I deleted the bad file (00200A.mxf), and the associated audio files (00200A01.mxf, 00200A02.mxf etc.) and FCP was able to import the rest of the files no problem using the Import P2 Log & Capture window.

I hope this helps. Thanks for your replies,
