  • Trouble getting clips from XDcam EX camera into Avid

Hi, I am having problems with importing clips from a Sony XDcam EX camera to my Avid. I was wondering if anyone could please tell me what I should do to solve this problem?

    So far I have:
    – Downloaded the SxS driver so that my laptop (MacBookPro) reads the cards.
    – Downloaded the XDCam EX browser

My version of Avid is 5.1 Avid Express Pro (Academic Version)
There is an option in my Avid where you can import by XDCam Proxy. When I choose this option I get a message saying “No XDCam volumes found”
If I try to import by the P2 option it does not recognize the files that I choose.
It doesn’t work when I try to import by the normal “Import” option either…

If there is anyone out there who knows what the solution is, please let me know what I should do….

    Many thanks,

There are no proxy files for XDCAM EX.
P2 is DVCPro codec, not EX.

For Avid, you may need to use File/Export/MXF for NLEs. . . in XDCAM EX ClipBrowser for an Avid compatible MXF file.

Give that a try and post back.

There’s a couple of ways I know about to bring EX1 files into Avid. Method 1 is to use the clip browser software provided with the EX1 to unwrap the mp4 file on the SxS card and rewrap it as an mxf file. The mxf file can then be imported into Avid.Once imported, transcode to DNxHD.
Method 2(my choice) is to transcode the native mp4 file on the SxS card to cineform intermediate with NeoHD. This method does not require transcoding within Avid.

Thanks, I tried to do the export from Media Browser and that succeeded. SO the problem is solved. Many thanks.

There are no proxy files with XDCAM EX, only the XDCAM HD. You must import the mxf files output from Sony Clipbrowser, just as you would a quicktime file or a jpeg.

You mention the cineform neo HD
    How do you use it
How come the Avid do not transcoding it
    I’ve download the neoHD
    What pref’ do you use?
