Okay I went to that website and changed the settings for the 2 Hour project, and it wouldn’t burn because the DVD isn’t large enough to hold it. It’s 4.7 GB DVD and it should be able to compress the file down to a size that will fit, shouldn’t it? So since I couldn’t burn this project, I loaded another porject which is having the same issues and it is 20.5 minutes. I changed the settings for this porject in order to burn it, and i have been watching it for the first 5 minutes, and it is “encoding” at a rate of .1% per minute. Is this normal, because at this rate, it is going to take a very long time haha. And what should I do about that other DVD? Once this 20 minute project is done burning, I will inform you of the playback results.

For 1 hour 49 minutes as you said in the previous post (109 min) the settings you should have gotten are: VBR 2 pass – Min: 1.55 – Average: 3.95 – Max: 8
Not enough space probably means that there isn’t room on your harddrive, since Premiere has to first create an image file, and then burn once the render is complete. Make sure you go to your preferences, and set your DVD image scratch disc to a drive that has more than 5GB of space.
The default is same as project, and if you are getting the project from your external drive, that’s probably the issue.
With those settings, it should fit. The render time will take a while on a P4, you’ll have to get used to it. I’ve seen renders of 15 hours back when I had a P4 2.6Ghz box with 2 gigs of ram. Nero might be faster, but i won’t mention quality here, it has been pretty awful in my personal tests.

ahh i c so for the 149 mintue project, should have it save to my D drive instead of the external drive, right? is it okay if the project itself is on the external drive? And the burning has speeded up a bit. It’s almost done and it’s only been an hour. That’s not too bad. I will inform you of the playback quality soon.

Yes, the project can be on the external drive. Also, don’t forget that there are 2 passes. For the 149 minutes project, I’m guessing you are probably looking at a minimum of 4/5 hours on a P4, depending on configuration.

Ok so good news!!! I burned the 20 minute project successfully. I am exstatic right now! So as I am going to try thr 149 min project again, I changed the recording settings, and made sure the DVD scratch disks were on a drive bigger than 5GB( my external drive) and when I go to click export to dvd, under the “burn DVD” window next to “status”, it says ” insufficient disk space for burning” so i changed the DVD scratch disks to drive D, and this status is still present. it’s not like a popup error message, it’s just in the DVD burn window under status. why is this? And thanks again for helping. I am so glad I can finally burn these DVDs!

Well, there could a couple reasons for this. By D drive, do you still mean the external drive? You can right click on the drive and select properties. Under the general tab, you should see File system: NTFS. If it says Fat32, then you won’t be able to use it as a scratch disk, because that system only allows files up to 4GB, the only way to fix that is to reformat it to NTSF.
Premiere might also be averaging the required space incorrectly, does it still let you burn? You can also try to lower the average setting a little and see if that takes care of it.

No by D drive, it is on my computer. I have a C drive and a D drive. My H drive is the external drive. i had problems with not be able to put anything bigger than 4 GB on their before( the external drive) so i found out how to re-fromat it and it is now NTFS. premiere still et’s me burn. let me try lowering the average setting…

I have 3 HD , bud thay are OK -> NTFS
I tried with real smaul files les than 4 BG – the some effect / No effect :(/I had couple mor softares fot burning and converting , bud I olready remouved them..I still keep onli NERO 7..
