Trouble capturing video with firewire
I am trying to capture footage from a Canon XL2 into Final Cut Pro using firewire, but am finding some hurdles. This is the first time I’ve ever tried to capture footage so I don’t know if this is all rookie mistakes or not, but here is my problem.
The camera is connected to the computer and the log and capture panel reads “VTR OK” below the screen. When I press “play” I get no playback in the preview but the camera’s viewfinder begins a playback. The fact that I can control the playback buttons but cannot see the playback in the preview panel is where I am confused. Clearly the two are connected, right?

Are your device control settings set to be firewire Basic, and your capture presets set to be DV (for 4:3 shoots) or DV anamorphic (in the case that you’ve shot 16:9)?
