I can not drop a transition into the timeline. I am currently dealing with an opening sequence that includes transitioning between two stills, I am trying to drop in a simple dissolve and it will only take to one side of the cut, and then I am unable to lengthen or shorten the duration. There is plenty of material on the A and B side of the cut for handles, I haven’t changed any settings. it seems to be arbitrary.

    Any suggestions?

Just double check about the handles. Also, zoom into timeline (Command +) to make sure you don’t have a single frame of slug or another clip between the clips by chance. Another quick way to get handle room on a still is to use the slip tool (s). It gives you a quick look at where your clip sits within the total length of the media.

Handles are good, no material between the the A & B side of the cut. It’s a mystery. Thanks for your response, Tom.
