[Welland Man] “In the trimmer window the video is just like play back from a sd card”
_______________________________________________________________
What do you mean by that?
[Welland Man] “so then go to preview window, drops quality.”
_______________________________________________________________
Again, what do you mean?
[Welland Man] “preview set on best full, Its like a 50% drop in overall pic quality
even renderd at highest rate Vegas seems to wash all the detail sharpness and colour out compared to orig footage so ends up looking like a £100 camera”

When you say it’s a 50% drop in picture quality, so where HAVE you viewed the footage to see it better than from within Vegas? On what are you viewing this footage? Bitrates, shouldn’t in themselves affect the quality issues you are talking of, that’s another story to cover.
OK, a bit of a reality check needed here. Be very assured that Vegas is a Pro NLE Editing software suite. Many hundreds of thousands of hours of Web, DVD, TV and mainstream videos are produced on this platform that has been about for nearly 14 years. So, if it is being used for this type of delivery, across many formats, what’s happening differently for you?
Vegas will show you exactly what is available to it, and if needed, all the way back to Standard Definition, as correctly as it can. That being the case, any media that falls within the ranges you are viewing need to be corrected INTERNALLY within Vegas to get back to your shot footage.
There maybe another factor coming into play, but one of the areas for adjustment to investigate is the Studio to RGB Levels. To this end you need to adjust the Levels of your footage using one of the internal adjustments processes. This is easy!
1] Open the FX Pane
2] Find the Sony Levels FX and drag and drop onto the Event on the Timeline
3] I’d need to know the outcome from your replies, but apply EITHER the Computer to RGB OR the RGB to Computer preset.
Do you see any difference? And what is that difference? Be really specific.
Cheers
