  • Trashing preferences – how? what is it?

Posted by Shannon Bedford on April 13, 2011 at 7:07 am

“Trash the preferences” keeps popping up in this forum.

What exactly am I doing? What changes will I see? Will this mean i have to go and reset my user preferences etc?

I’m looking in the Preferences folder right now, loads of files but I can see only one that looks like the right one: “com.apple.RegFinalCutStudio.plist”
(No FinalCutPro specific files). Is this the one? I read that I should be trashing a group of files.

    Read all about it here:

You should also begin a regular maintenance schedule with a program such as this:

    https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/11582/onyx

Learn how cleaning utility programs work and customize the one you choose to do certain tasks automatically. Programs like Preference Manager and Onyx should be in every person’s Mac tool kit, especially when using FC Studio.
