if there aren’t any ambient light settings within the effect, you could try using another light as a fill light, poisitioned near the camera.

if particular 2 can’t respond to more than one light or the fill light doesn’t work for the rest of the scene, then you might try duplicating the particle system layer and disabling the lighting for that system. then adjusting the opacity or blending modes to see if you can get the fill that you need.
