Transparent AVIs
I am attempting to take particle illusion output in PNG format with transparent background and create a transparent AVI for use in PROSHOW. I have searched throughout the forums and think I am missing just one minor element.
So far I have been able to create the PNGs, load them into Sony Vegas, follow directions elsewhere to create a transparent AVI, load the AVI created back into Sony Vegas and change the background of that AVI to Transparent. That is about as far as directions have taken me. When I try to save the newly transparent AVI back out of Vegas I always get the background again. What am I missing?

To get transparency, render as UNCOMPRESSED and then go into the settings and make sure the option to preserve transparency is turned on.

Sorry to be such a newbie but I sure am. So I have rendered the video as UNCOMPRESSED. Now I have the avi output. I reopen the AVI and then go into settings for the transparency option? And if I’ve got that right I’ve searched for this options/settings area with no luck – can you be more specific about where it’s located? I really appreciate your help.

Right click, properties, set the alpha channel in the Properties.
You may need to use Premult/Dirty, depending on the content, but usually just setting the channel works.Douglas Spotted Eagle
