I have several images I want to layer on top of each other, with transitions. Is putting each image inside a storyline really the only way to accomplish this?

Is Apple pushing for any type of compositing to be done in Motion instead? Is that why it’s a nightmare to layer things?

Has anyone seen a good tutorial on storylines?

Yep- that’s how you get transitions off the primary. Don’t forget you can use the compositing fader handles if you only want standard dissolves. But the rest of the transitions require secondary storylines in order to be allowed off the primary storyline.

    Hi Thom

Do check out my Adjustable Frame Effect posted here today as it looks like it’s perfect for the job you are trying to do. If you’d like I could make you a version with built-in controllable fades if that would help.

But yes, the lack of transitions other than in storylines is a major weakness in FCPX at the moment 🙁
