  • Transitions appear “interlaced”

I’m not sure why but my transitions all appear to have that interlaced look. The video itself is fine, just standard 720×480 dv ntsc. Fields were filmed at lower and its the sequence fields are set to lower as well. But all the transitions look like they need to be de-interlaced….any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks!

    Hi Stanley,
Are watching the movie in an interlaced monitor?
In a computer monitor is impossible to be sure if there are interlacing problems.

Well, yes I am watching it on a computer monitor, but the final output will only be watched on a monitor as well. I tried giving it a test render and the interlacing gets rendered as well. I just don’t get why the transitions would be interlaced but not the video…

    Hi Stanley,
If the film will be watch in a computer, de-interlace everything.
Your movie will look much better.
Once you have your movie ready to export, set the sequence to NONE (Progressive) and drop a de-interlcing filter in all the clips in the sequence.
    Don’t use the FC De-interlacer

One more thing: QT display Square pixels.
Your 720×480 movie will look distorted on play in a computer.
You need to export with a size that compensates this.
After you make your movie in FC, you need to send your movie to Compressor for this re-sizing.

I know about the square pixel thing, my only issue is that the video is not interlaced, but most transitions and some effects ARE interlaced. There is no way to de-interlace only transitions and effects as far as I’m aware. Also, I tried setting my fields to progressive but this didn’t fix anything other then making my video blurry….and the effects still remained interlaced…although checking ‘single field’ in the qt settings fixed the transitions it again, made my video blurry.
