Transition put on clip, but affects entire time line?

Hi, I’m getting some unexpected behavior from PPro CS5.5, wondering if I’m missing something?

I have 5 stacked video tracks, with my footage on V3. My footage is a person being interviewed, and I want to use a page peel to go from one section of the interview to another. However, when I apply the page peel transition to V3, it’s affecting all 5 video tracks.

Here’s my timeline, if that helps to better explain what I’m doing:
PPro 5.5 project, 1920 x 1080.

V5: Station ID (PNG logo in lower left corner)
V4: Title (from PPro Title tool)
V3: 1920 x 1080 video footage, reduced to 50% and pushed to upper right as Picture in picture effect
V2: PNG graphic on left side of screen (the graphic is from their powerpoint presentation, which is on a white background, which is why I have V1 as:
V1: 1920 x 1080 white slug

Add a page peel to V3 and all 5 video tracks peel when I preview the effect.

Nest V3 and apply effect in the nested sequence.
See how that works.

Thanks for the suggestion Ann. Are you saying to work on V3 in a separate timeline, then nest that timeline into the main project? Does it work with Dynamic Linking, or is any future change in the new timeline going to have to be manually updated?

It’s not Dynamic Link, it’s nesting. If you make a change in the original sequence then yes those changes update with the nested sequence (being used as a clip).

From you explain I am not sure if you want all the tracks to use the transition as one flattened composite or just to have the transition affect only clip on track 3?

Can you clarify your desired outcome.

Hi John,
I wanted the transition to affect only the clip on V3. What I ended up doing was using the gradient wipe transition. It didn’t give me the page peel, but since the rest of the video tracks were the same, you don’t notice the transition on them, so the final look is the gradient wipe just on the pic-n-pic window.

The whole point was so the viewer see’s the edit and knows that it’s intentional and not a mistake, without breaking up the flow of what’s being said.
