I hope this finds you well. I have just begun with Premiere Pro CS6. I worked with multiple, effect-loaded layers, from various sources, which I have not transcoded (as was my custom in Final Cut). The clips range from 1280X720 Prores to 1080 AVCHD. The layering seems to be working fine, but at first I experienced frequent crashes. I updated to 6.01, which seemed to eliminate the crashes, but soon began crashing again. I switched to Mercury engine software only, which eliminated the crashes. I am now working on a multilayered sequence which, un-rendered, slows and stutters.

Any ideas on how to improve performance? I was told that I still experienced crashes after the 6.01 update while still using the GPU acceleration because the memory of the previous crashes is still in the system and there is a way to eliminate that memory, although I don’t know how to do so.

    Many thanks.

    All the best,

    Julian

I am working on a MacBook Pro, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 8GB Ram, 7200, graphic cards that came with the computer AMD Radeon HD 6770M and Intel HD Graphics 3000. I work with 5 G-tech firewire drives attached.

Now that Mountain Lion (Mac OSX v10.8) is out, we are recommending that people using Premiere Pro CS6 with OpenCL acceleration upgrade to Mountain Lion. This version of the operating system includes several important fixes regarding OpenCL that improves stability and performance for programs like Premiere Pro CS6.

    Many thanks, Todd.

I am about to download Mountain Lion, but still have a project I am finishing in FCP 7, and have heard Mountain Lion won’t open it. Do you happen to know if there is any truth to that?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    All the best,

    Julian

Sorry, but I don’t know anything about how FCP7 works on Mountain Lion. That’s a good question for the Apple folks.
