    Hi,

Please forgive the basic question, but I’ve scoured the MC manual, and can’t find the answer. I’m primarily a FCP guy working on an Avid for now, and I’m having trouble with applying transitions to a single layer. Here’s what I’m doing:

I’ve got a base layer of video on V1, an alpha matte key of a boarder on V2, and a title on V3 and V4. I want the title on V4 to push in from right to left with everything else already on screen.
When I apply the Push: Left to Right transition effect to the title, it pushes everything below it as well as the title. There is just filler on the incoming side, so I’m not sure why it’s affecting all the other clips.

    What am I missing here?

    Many thanks!

The bulk of Avid effects affect everything from the top down. There are a few exceptions where keying is involved like titles and mattes. For the basic title push on and off, don’t use the push effect, just move the titles within the title effect.

Go into effects mode, select the title, add a keframe where you want the push to start, go to the end keyframe and move the title off screen. Now when you play it, it will push off.

If you want another title to push it off, add it to a track above and cut it in starting at the first keyframe of the move on the lower title. Add a second keyframe to this title at the end of the lower titles shot. Go back to the first keyframe and move the title off the opposite side of the screen. You are done.

You can use numbers in the horizontal position slider to get an exact matching move.

Think of it as using the “motion” tab in FCP to move your title around.

BTW: In the lower right hand corner of your title in effect mode, there is a box labelled 3-D. Click that and your title effect promotes to 3-D and gives you a ton more options. You may lose RT performance this way so only use it if you need it.

Thanks for the response. Just one of the many differences between the two platforms, I guess.

    Cheers!
