An animator delivered an animated transition bumper. (https://ftp-a.info/bumper/Bumper2.mov)

The bumper should allow the transition from one clip to another.

The bumper includes an alpha area and a green for chroma. The animator said this is the way he always deliver this type of bumper.

Any ideas on how to use it in Vegas pro 12?

Simple, just use the one with the Alpha Channel and when
you drop it on the timeline above your video, you change
the alpha channel properties of it to Straight.

I don’t see how this is going to work in Vegas Pro. The problem is that you can’t direct the alpha to one track and the chroma key to a different track so after you add the chroma key, the outgoing event will continue to show through and you’ll never see the incoming event.

I’d be curious to know what NLE the editors use that he usually gives these to. Maybe that will give jus a clues as to how it’s done?

You obviously didn’t download the clip he pointed to. It’s not that easy. First of all the alpha channel is Premultiplied, not Straight. Second, the clip contains both alpha channel and chroma but there is no way to direct them to be used with two different events (i.e., the outgoing and incoming event of the transition). I don’t see how this could work. You really need to download the clip and try it to see if you can come up with a solution. I was only able to spend 15 minutes on it this morning before work but it’s not an obvious solution.

Unless he is not describing the situation correctly!

He described it correctly. There is an alpha component and a green chroma component. The alpha is for the outgoing event and the chroma is for the incoming event.

Thank you John and Steve for your responses.

I have spent time trying to use it in Vegas. I tried ‘Mask generator’, ‘Multiply Mask’, and I was close, but wasn’t able to get it done.

I watched this video tutorial explaining how to use Digital Juice swipes in Vegas, to see if I can get some ideas, but no luck. (https://www.digitaljuice.com/djtv/detail.aspx?sid=192)

I have been trying to contact the animator all day long. I will ask him what software should I use with his transitions and I will ask him to send me a sample file if possible.

Then ask him to send the file with just an alpha channel.

Or a green background alone, that you can key out.

Hey Frank, I got it to work! I was thinking it needed a mask of some sort and the Digital Juice tutorial was the key.

You need a matte like in the DJ tutorial. Here is how to make one:

    1. Drop a copy of the Bumper in the tracks between the outgoing and incoming video like the matte in the DJ tutorial.
    2. Add a Color Corrector (Secondary) to the copy of the bumper
    3. Make the Selected Color the chroma green
    4. Check Show Mask and Invert Mask

That’s it! You now have a moving black and white matte just like the one that Digital Juice gives you. You can follow the DJ tutorial adding Mask generator, etc. and it will work (I just tried it).

Thank you John, I was able to do it, by creating the matte first!
