Transferring Sony “Raw DV” into FCP7
Recently shot HD video with a Sony HDV-Z7U camcorder. The shooting settings were 1080i. The camera records on tape and on a CF card recording unit simultaneously. CF unit is set to record “Raw DV”.
Using FCP7’s “log and transfer” tool, we were able to dump the CF card into the MAC Pro. The 70 minutes of video on the CF card took 2 hours to dump. Now FCP7 does not like the files so we can’t use them.
Which CF recording mode setting is better for FCP7 – “Raw DV” or “AVI”?
What are the correct FCP7 settings to import either Raw DV or AVI so that we can edit the files in FCP7?

What CF Card recording unit did you use? Firestore (that’s what google brings up)
FCP doesn’t work with .AVI, nor “RAW DV.” What is “Raw DV?”

Looks like you recorded DV…meaning SD. Not HD. RAW DV is DV…which is the lowest form of SD you can get. The post I link to suggests you use FLIP4MAC (not free) to convert it to DV/NTSC that FCP works with. But I say forget it..because it is SD. Capture HDV from the HDV tape. THAT is HD.
In the future…it’s always wise to test your workflows before you go out and shoot.

Shane, the CF recording unit is a Sony HVR-MRC1. It piggy backs on the back of the Sony HVR-Z7U camcorder and it can record HDV. There are two choices for CF file formats – .AVI and Raw DV. A 32 Gig CF card holds aprox. 146 minutes of video in either file format.
