Transfer To Tape
I am using Sony Vegas 9.0 and I am having trouble saving customized templates when I’m trying to transfer HD footage back to MiniDV. It won’t let me use ANY of the custom settings. Can anyone help me with this?

When you transfer to tape, I believe it has to be the same format that came off the tape. If your custom templates change that, it won’t work.

I shot the footage on a Panasonic HVX200a in 720 at 30fps. I opened my project settings in Vegas set at 1280 x 720 x 128 at 29.970fps. I rendered the file with this settings as an MOV. I then transfered the MOV back into Vegas and proceeded to transfer it back to MiniDV tape. Which works fine, but it won’t retain the original settings. It defaults back to 780 x 420 NTSC DV. When I open the custom template menu and make the adjustments, I can save them, but it won’t allow me to USE them. It just goes back to the default. Any ideas on how I can use my custom template for tape transfer?

Oh, I wasn’t using a tape. It was P2 Card. 64 gig.

By it’s very nature, miniDV tape is 720X480 @29.97 fps (NTSC).

Are there any tapes in the known DV world that will support HD transfers without losing quality?

HDV tapes are the same size and you can print back to tape with it on a 720p HDV camera. JVC HDV camcorders and decks captures HDV at 720p so you should use one to print to tape. What camera did the original files come from? Can you use the same camera?
